Ms. Whitaker-Auvil began singing in her hometown of Midland Michigan with the Midland Music Society's 5th and 6th grade honor's choir. Throughout middle school and high school she continued to participate in both school and community theatre and choirs. In middle school, Ms. Whitaker-Auvil was selected to perform with the Michigan State Vocal Music Association Honors Choir. In high school, she was selected as a soloist to participate in the Michigan Youth Arts Festival.
Ms. Whitaker-Auvil holds a masters degree in voice performance from the University of Missouri Kansas City. In Kansas City Ms. Whitaker-Auvil has had the opportunity to perform with the Lyric Opera of Kansas City, UMKC Opera Department, UMKC Musical Theatre Department, Kansas City Metro Opera Company, CrossCurrent's Theatre and the St. Peter's Players. These roles have included La Ciesca in Gianni Schicchi, Rose Hoffman in Working, Giunone in Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria, Dew Fairy in Hansel and Gretel and Edith in ThePirates of Penzance.
Ms. Whitaker-Auvil served as the assistant director for UMKC's production of The Pirates of Penzance. She has served as director for productions with CrossCurrent's Theatre and the Barn Players as well as numerous Opera Scenes through UMKC's Opera Department.
Ms. Whitaker-Auvil received her undergraduate degree in Music Education from Central Michigan University in 2001. Ms. Whitaker-Auvil earned numerous honors at CMU including earning the R. Cedric Colness Vocal Scholarship, School of Music Scholarship, a Teacher Education and Professional Development Scholarship and being selected as a Convocation Soloist. While at Central, Ms. Whitaker-Auvil performed with both the music and the theatre departments and was as active member of Sigma Alpha Iota and Alpha Psi Omega. Roles include Mabel The Pirates of Penzance, Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro and Under Milkwood as well as premiering the role of Kate in The Rose Garden.
In her hometown of Midland, Ms. Whitaker-Auvil has been an active participant with the Midland Peanut Gallery, Midland Music Society, Midland Theatre Guild, Teenage Musicals Inc. and the Gilbert and Sullivan Society. With the help of her many mentors at the The Midland Center for the Arts she has gained experience in the areas of Theatre Make-up and Hair Design, Costuming, House Management, Stage Management, Directing and of course Performing. Some of her many roles at the MCFTA include Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus, Mabel in The Pirates of ‘Finance', Constance in The Sorcerer, Queenie in Honk, Rosemary in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Maria in West Side Story and Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz.
Ms. Whitaker-Auvil currently teaches and performs in the Southwest Michigan area.
She often wonders if her parents had any idea what they were getting themselves into when they took her to her first audition in the 5th grade!!
